Cara Format FAT32 Hardisk Volume Besar di Windows XP

Sebenarnya mudah untuk format hardisk menjadi FAT32 di Windows XP, tapi akan menjadi masalah kalau besarnya volume hardisk lebih dari 32GB.

Padahal sebagaimana kita tahu ukuran hardisk sekarang besar-besar, termasuk external hardisk yang paling sering di format dan dibawa-bawa. Karena kalau hardisk kita mau dicolok di Windows 98, maka hardisk harus dalam format FAT32.

Karena Windows XP ‘tidak mengijinkan’ kita melakukan format FAT32 untuk hardisk dengan volume lebih dari 32GB. Seperti yang ditulis Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q314463&:

“You cannot format a volume larger than 32 gigabytes (GB) in size using the FAT32 file system during the Windows XP installation process. Windows XP can mount and support FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB (subject to the other limits), but you cannot create a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB by using the Format tool during Setup. If you need to format a volume that is larger than 32 GB, use the NTFS file system to format it. Another option is to start from a Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Startup disk and use the Format tool included on the disk”.

Sore ini setelah beberapa kali coba-coba untuk bisa memformat eksternal hardisk 80GB di Windows XP, akhirnya saya menemukan utility kecil di internet namanya fat32format. Fat32format besarnya cuma sekitar 48KB namun bisa untuk format hardisk dari volume 40 Giga Byte sampai 2 Tera Byte (1 TB=1024 GB)!.

Berikut cara pemakaian fat32format:
1. download fat32format disini
2. biar mudah extract ke drive C:
3. kemudian klik Start > Run, di window Run ketik cmd, kemudian klik tombol OK
4. di command prompt arahkan ke drive C:\fat32format x: (ganti x: dengan drive hardisk yang mau diformat), kemudian Enter
5. akan muncul “Warning ALL data on drive ‘f’ will be lost irretrievably, are you sure (y/n)”, ketik Y kemudian Enter
6. maka tidak sampai 4 detik proses format sudah selesai

Untuk memastikan format hardisk menjadi file system FAT32 berhasil, dapat dicek dengan mengetik di command prompt chkdsk x: (ganti x: dengan drive hardisk yang barusan diformat), maka akan tampil:
